Smitha Murthy: Start Something That Matters

“You don’t have to have a lot of money, a complicated business plan, or a great deal of experience to start something.” — Blake Mycoskie, Chief Shoe
Giver, TOMS

Sometimes, the idea of starting something seems bigger than our dreams. But dreams were never meant to be couched in the shell of mediocrity, anyway. After having worked as a teacher, researcher, content analyst, content manager, and people manager for nearly 14 years, Smitha Murthy realized that there was a world out there, which had changed, that careers no longer had a linear progression, and that a profession was not just a designation. Starting Trippin Traveller, a travel portal that aggregates offbeat and
responsible tours, was an idea borne out of a friend’s photography exhibition. It was an idea that evolved and changed and formed many shapes. It’s an idea that is still evolving. The start-up world is sometimes a lonely and scary world, because underneath all the glamorous world of
big-funding articles in newspapers, reality is that the ordinary entrepreneur has only big dreams, but no cushions or pillows. The journey isn’t pretty, but starting the journey is the “something that matters.” Find out how Smitha
made the entrepreneur leap into leading a start-up with the vision of becoming India’s biggest portal for responsible tourism.

Rajeev Pandey:
I started Edumob.in to help women who are on sabbatical (often to raise their family) and want to get back to their careers in a more convenient and structured way. I have worked previously at Amazon, IBM earlier and conducted hundreds of interviews so far. Filed two US patents & graduated from IIT Madras 2005.
