Taking off on a holiday with your family could put your house at risk. With several people leaving behind independent houses and apartments locked for more than a week during summer vacations, burglars fancy their chances. Inspector L Y Rajesh of HSR Layout police station says, “With no activity in and around the house for up to a week, it becomes an easy target for burglars as they do not expect to face any obstacle to their activities.”

Police are asking citizens to cooperate with them in preventing burglaries. Among other things, they have been requesting citizens to inform the nearest police station about their travel plans and other necessary details.

“It helps to have details about your milkman, newspaper vendor, your house etc. It helps us keep a vigil on houses whose inmates are out on a vacation. Newspapers and milk packets lying unattended at the doorstep attract the attention of burglars,” explains Rajesh.TIPS TO SECURE YOUR HOUSE
» Do not keep valuables and ornaments at home. Instead, keep them in bank lockers.
» Switch off lighting equipment, as they would attract unnecessary attention.
» Keep the police informed about your travel plans.
» Inform the newspaper vendor and milkman too and leave their details with the police.
» Do not keep laptops, handycams and other costly gadgets.
» Do not park cars and vehicles on the road or pavement.
» Do not keep weapons and ammunition at home.
» Apartment dwellers must inform their association.
Thankfully no deaths have taken place except for minor injuries, but do we need to wait until then?. The Authorities needs to build Speed Breakers at all these junction and install “Round About Island” specially at 19th Main and 17th Cross Junction which is very wide and creates lot of confusion among the drivers.

Because of the Flyover work at Agara and 14th Main Signal most of the outer ring road traffic is passing through HSR Layout, finding shortcuts and trying every available road causing disturbance to the residents, and adding this they forget that they are not on Outer Ring Road and are passing through a residential Layout, but they zoom at great speeds on these roads. To ease up the traffic the civic agencies upgraded almost all the Main roads to 60-80 Feet but they forget to provide safety measures tooo!.

Some of these Deadly roads include 17th Cross, 22nd Cross, 24th Main, 19th Main etc. Waiting for Some Quick Action.

As is known to everyone, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has made rainwater harvesting mandatory in upcoming houses of 30 ft by 40 ft and above dimensions and also in existing houses built in 40 ft by 60 ft dimensions. There will be no water supply to those residences that have not adopted rainwater harvesting after the May 27 deadline. In view of this, the Federation of HSR Layout Residents’ Welfare Association took the initiative of educating the residents about RWH by holding a live demonstration at Samarthanam School, Sector 4 on May 2.
About 150 residents were present to witness the demonstration. HSR Layout Corporator Latha Narashimamurthy, P B Ramamurthy, Chairman of BWSSB; Venkatraju, BWSSB’s Chief Engineer (Maintenance); and Kemparamaiah, BWSSB’s Chief Engineer (Quality Assurance), addressed the residents.
After the demonstration, there was an interactive session in which many doubts of the residents’ about RWH were cleared by AR Shivakumar, scientist, Karnataka State Science and Technology Council, and by the BWSSB officials.
Shivakumar said, “BWSSW is paying Rs 250 to 260 crore towards electricity bill to the Karnataka Electricity Board in supplying water to the residents. In the present condition, we have to drill at least 100 ft for a bore well, whereas the depth was only 300-400 ft. earlier.” He also came up with many such relevant facts to make people understand why they must go in for rain water harvesting.
